Biographical Files, circa 1963-1988

circa 1963-1988

These records contain biographical information about Smithsonian staff, most of whom were employed or active in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. The files were kept as an information resource by the Office of Public Affairs and used as needed for announcements, public statements, and publications. Staff covered in the files include regents, bureau directors, office heads, and various employees of interest. Occasional materials on docents, volunteers, and contributors to the museum collections were also saved. Much of the information in this record unit resulted from a single event or single newspaper article, but important figures, such as regents and museum directors, are quite well documented. These records include newspaper clippings, magazine articles, articles from The Torch, press releases, biographical sketches, announcements, and some photographs.
